James Emmanuel
After obtaining a BSc (Elec Eng) Hons from the University of Cape Town, James worked for Scott Wilson International, before joining Arup (formerly Ove Arup & Partners) in 2001, and has practiced as an electrical engineer, consultant and project manager for nearly 20 years.
James is responsible for the overall management of the project teams.
Sten Mutaringe
Stenford holds a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical
Engineering, and is a registered professional
engineer in both South Africa and Zimbabwe,
and a Green Star (SA) Accredited Professional.
He has over 20 years’ experience in the built
environment and was co-author of Existing
Buildings – Survival Strategies in collaboration
with GBCSA.
Sten also worked for Arup for many years, and James and Sten collaborated on numerous projects in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa.
Aside from being the mechanical expert for ECE, Sten is also a director of Checkpoint and Drofnets in South Africa.
Fred Smith
Fred has 45 years of experience as a licensed professional engineer, and has been responsible for a significant number of projects in Zimbabwe, and the region, including Joina Centre, and the award winning Eastgate Centre and Harare International School.
Fred and James worked together at Arup for 14
years, and this close working relationship continues
at ECE, and results in well coordinated and optimised
designs.
John Goddard
John is a Chartered Engineer, and holds an MSc Eng in Civil and Highway Engineering, and has over 40 years experience in Zimbabwe and the region.
He is a registered professional engineer licensed in both Zimbabwe and South Africa, and a member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (UK) and the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers.
James and John did not have the opportunity to work together until 2015, when Steve suggested John come in to assist ECE on one of our road and water projects, and since then the relationship has been strengthened through various civil projects undertaken by ECE.
Peta-Jane Spong
Peta Jane is a qualified environmental consultant
with over 20 years’ experience in the region,
providing advisory services to PricewaterhouseCoopers, Environmental
Management Resources and Walmsley
Environmental Consultants, among others. Peta-
Jane’s experience largely focuses on the
environmental and social risks of development
projects.
Aside from her role with selected ECE projects, when we require environmental input, Peta-Jane works independently and she currently leads the Inclusive Business Forum and is a director of Sustainability Solutions.
Peta-Jane and James first worked together in 2000, with The German Organisation for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) - now the GIZ, and since then have maintained the same close working relationship
Steve Norton
Steve is a qualified civil engineer, holding a BSc Eng (Civil) Hons degree from the University of Cape Town. He is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, London, and the Institute of Structural Engineers, and a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers.
Steve has over 35 years of civil and structural engineering experience and has been involved with the implementation of numerous projects in Zimbabwe and the region. He has led various civil and structural projects for ECE, where his combination of Structural and Civil expertise has been invaluable. When not working on our ECE projects Steve also provides independent engineering advice to fabricators and contractors.
As with most of ECE’s trusted consultants, Steve and James have a long standing professional history, and were both at Scott Wilson in 1999, then worked together again in 2004 on a project in Mozambique, and then again on the Zimplats project in 2006.
Richard Werrett
Richard did his National Diploma at The Port Elizabeth Technikon - now Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and is currently studying through UNISA, while at ECE, for his BEng qualification.
Richard joined ECE in Jan 2017, and is mastering our various software design design tools, and gaining experience across the various disciplines while being responsible for drawing production in both AutoCAD and Revit.
Stephen Zhuga
Stephen obtained his City &Guilds (London) - Mechanical Engineering Technician and studied at Harare Polytechnic College -National Certificate in Draughting and Design Technology.
Stephen joined ECE in July 2018, part time, and his skills with modelling and Revit are invaluable in helping us deliver projects to world class standards
