After obtaining a BSc (Elec Eng) Hons from the University of Cape Town, James worked for Scott Wilson International, before joining Arup (formerly Ove Arup & Partners) in 2001, and has practiced as a services engineer, consultant and project manager for nearly 25 years.
James is responsible for the overall management of the project teams.
Rui Lage
Senior Consultant
Rui is a Senior Consultant with over 25 years of experience in Building Services projects, he holds an MSc in Building Services Engineering.
Rui has delivered high-voltage and low-voltage installations, HVAC services, and project management. His experience includes designing and implementing complex infrastructure, His expertise also extends to budgeting, concept design, preliminary and final designs, specifications, contract awards, and commissioning.
Fred Smith
Structural Engineer
Fred is a seasoned professional engineer with a 45-year track record of delivering exceptional projects across Zimbabwe and the region. His portfolio includes iconic landmarks like Joina Centre and the award-winning Eastgate Centre. Having collaborated seamlessly with James for 14 years at Arup, their partnership continues to drive innovation and efficiency at ECE for the last 8 years.
John Goddard
Civil Engineer
John is a highly experienced Chartered Engineer with an MSc in Civil and Highway Engineering. With a career spanning over four decades, he has made significant contributions to numerous projects across Zimbabwe and the region. Registered as a professional engineer in both Zimbabwe and South Africa, and a member of esteemed institutions like the Institute of Civil Engineers (UK) and the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers, John brings exceptional expertise to our team.
Rod Finlay
Senior Consultant
Rod has four decades of Structural Engineering experience, and more recently has also acted in a Project Management role, delivering projects both in Zimbabwe and across Africa. Notable projects include a $3.6M tobacco storage warehouse in Harare and a $7.3M diesel storage facility at Chevron Escravos Oil Terminal in Nigeria. Rod‘s expertise spans project management, structural engineering, and design, with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget. His ability to manage cross-functional teams and technical expertise makes him a valuable asset operating in Africa’s dynamic construction industry.
Dexter Shumba
Design Engineer
Dexter is a Building Services Engineer with a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK. With experience in building services design and consulting, he has developed expertise in lighting, small power, and distribution. Proficient in lighting design using Dialux, he creates tailored schedules for projects. Dexter has worked on large-scale projects, including Afreximbank and Cut Rag Processor’s new facility, showcasing his ability to handle complex electrical designs. He is also skilled in client communication and management of various projects.
Busiso Dube
Junior Engineer
Busiso is a junior Civil and Structural Engineer with 3 years experience in structural building design and civil infrastructure, he holds a Bachelor’s Honors Degree in Civil and Water Engineering. Busiso has worked on various projects for ECE, including 2 bank projects and an 80 apartment accommodation complex in Harare that ECE is designing demonstrating expertise in feasibility studies. He is detail-oriented, works well under pressure, and communicates effectively. Busiso is a dedicated professional committed to delivering innovative solutions that meet project needs.
Tanaka Nyakudya
Junior Engineer
Tanaka is a qualified Structural / Civil Engineer with additional expertise in construction supervision. Holding a Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree, Tanaka has designed RC concrete structures, and undertaken steel detailing work working with ECE’s senior engineers. Currently, he is actively involved in refining structural and civil engineering details at Afreximbank site, and quality checks on contractors, to promote the high standards this development requires.
Stephen Zhuga
Revit Technician
Stephen qualified as a Mechanical Engineering Technician through City &Guilds (London) as well as studied at the Harare Polytechnic College obtaining his National Certificate in Draughting and Design Technology. Since joining ECE part-time in July 2018, his expertise in modeling and Revit has been instrumental in achieving our world-class project standards.
